Prix Pathé


The 15thZurich Film Festival presents the "Prix Pathé – Film Journalists’ Prize" for the first time in 2019.

Endowed with a 10’000 Swiss franc cash prize, the "Prix Pathé" honours exceptional journalism in the filmmaking sector. Funded by Pathé Schweiz and Pathé Films AG, the prize will be awarded during the 15th Zurich Film Festival.

Journalists can enter an article from now to and including July 31, 2019. A jury comprising representatives of Pathé and the Swiss Association of Film Journalists will choose the article that they consider to be of the highest journalistic quality to receive the prize. 

Registration & Participation

The "Prix Pathé" is a prize awarded for an exceptional piece of published film journalism in Switzerland (print, radio, TV and online). It must be a film critique or a film essay about a film (this is not limited to Swiss films) that screened in a Swiss cinema/festival between June 2018 and June 2019.

Legible for entry are film critiques with a minimum airtime of 2 minutes or 3’000 characters including spaces.

1.1 «Prix Pathé - Film Journalists’ Prize» (Prize for Film Journalism?)

The «Prix Pathé – Film Journalists’ Prize», endowed with CHF 10,000, will be awarded during the 17th Zurich Film Festival. It is funded by the companies Pathé Schweiz and Pathé Films AG.

1.2 Aim of the «Prix Pathé»

The «Prix Pathé» aims to honor and strengthen film criticism as an independent form of journalism. It rewards exceptional film journalism in print, radio, TV or online media.

1.3 Deadline

Entries must be submitted up to and including June 21, 2021, via e-mail to [email protected] The winner will be announced on Thursday, September 9, at the Zurich Film Festival media conference. The award ceremony will take place on September 28 at the Zurich Film Festival - the day Pathé celebrates its 125th anniversary.

1.4 Fees

There is no entry fee.

1.5 Regulations

By submitting an entry, the participant accepts these regulations in their entirety, and hereby confirms that they are legally authorised to send the article to Zurich Film Festival AG.


2.1 Participants

Only full-time working film journalists residing in Switzerland are eligible to submit an entry. The submission is limited to one entry per person.

2.2 Permitted submissions

Contributions published in Switzerland in the fields of print, radio, TV or online media are eligible for the «Prix Pathé».

The following criteria must also be fulfilled:

  • The entry must have an airtime of 90 seconds or comprise at least 3000 characters including spaces.
  • The entry must have been aired/published between January 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021.
  • It must be a film review or essay on a film (not limited to Swiss films) which was screened in Switzerland between June 2020 and June 2021.

2.3 Submission process

The entry must be submitted no later than June 21, 2021, as follows: · PDF or web link to the entry must be sent exclusively by e-mail to: [email protected]

3.1 Selection

All entries submitted by the deadline and that fulfil the conditions of participation will be assessed and evaluated by the jury. The winner will be informed of the jury's decision by the beginning of September 2021.

3.2 Jury

The selection of the winner of the «Prix Pathé 2021» is the responsibility of a three-member jury consisting of director Sabine Boss, Venanzio Di Bacco, CEO of Pathé Switzerland and Christian Jungen, Artistic Director of the Zurich Film Festival.

3.3 Winner

The winner will be announced in September 2021. The prize money will be paid against an invoice. An appeal against the jury's decision is not possible. 


Should a clause in these regulations be invalid or a legal loophole exist, the validity of the remaining clauses or the regulations as a whole remain unaffected. In the above-mentioned event, the invalid or missing clause shall be replaced by a valid clause that comes closest to the intended sense and purpose of the contract and the legal provisions. The Organiser reserves the right to make decisions on all matters unforeseen by these regulations and, in special, vindicated cases, to make exceptions to these regulations.

Swiss law is solely applicable in the event of disputes. The place of jurisdiction is – to the extent legally permissible – agreed upon as where the Organiser is based. For participants whose place of general jurisdictions is not Switzerland, or reside abroad after entering the contest, the place of jurisdiction shall also be agreed upon as where the Organiser is based.

The laws of the Swiss Confederation apply. Any recourse to legal action is excluded.
