Exciting debuts and a Golden Eye for Andrew Garfield

06. October 2017

We present three exciting new directors and their films in our international competition section today: Xavier Legrand’s intense divorce drama JUSQU'À LA GARDE (18:30, Corso 2), which sees a precarious family situation get out of hand, is without doubt one of the year’s greatest discoveries.

Iranian filmmaker Ali Asgari, whose short films have already garnered more than one hundred international awards, presents his directorial debut DISAPPEARANCE (21:30, Corso 2), which tells the tale of a young Iranian couple attempting to ‚undo’ a night of passion; and finally, we give you director Matan Yair’s highly emotional character portrait of a young man torn between school and his family home in the Israeli entry SCAFFOLDING (21:45).

Gunslinging sidekick actor Bill Pullman refused to let us know whether he’s going to trot over the Green Carpet on a horse when he arrives to present the premiere of Jared Moshé’s sizzling hot western THE BALLAD OF LEFTY BROWN (18.00, Corso 1) today.

We look forward to welcoming director Tonie Marshall, who has brought her French gender drama NUMERO UNE (18:30, Le Paris) to Zurich; and Gollum actor Andy Serkis is in town with his actors Claire Foy and Andrew Garfield to present the Gala Premiere screening of his directorial debut BREATHE (20:45, Corso 1) – just look out for the huge crowd at the Green Carpet.

The New World View section sees lead actor Zoltán Fenyvesi arrive in Zurich to present the premiere of Attila Till’s black comedy KILLS ON WHEELS (21:30, Filmpodium), a Hungarian hit with an unusually rapid exchange of word and gunfire! And finally, we round off the evening with a cocktail at the Widder Garage before making our way to the Folium Sihlcity for the ZFF 72 Award Party.
