#Cannes2017: Uma Thurman presides over ‘Un Certain Regard’ section

04. May 2017

American actress Uma Thurman is set to preside over the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section at the 70th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Thurman presented the 12th ZFF’s Filmmaker Award in Zurich last autumn.

Uma Thurman will preside over the jury for the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section at the film festival in Cannes, thus following in the footsteps of Swiss actress Marthe Keller, who received the honour last year.  Thurman was a member of the official competition jury in 2011. The ‘Un Certain Regard’ section, which runs parallel to the main competition, showcases works which offer a unique perspective and aesthetic. It is considered as the springboard platform for emerging directors at Cannes. The section was introduced by the then general director Gilles Jacob in 1978. The Cannes Film Festival award ceremony takes place on May 27, 2017.

The actress whose filmography spans 20 years was a guest at the ZFF in 2016, where she presented the Filmmaker Award, an annual award aimed at supporting and promoting Swiss filmmakers.
