    5th International Film Music Competition: Golden Eye to Javier Bayon

    The Spanish composer Javier Bayon is the winner of the 5th International Film Music Competition, which took place within the framework of the 12th Zurich Film Festival at the Tonhalle Zürich on Friday evening. Bayon was crowned winner of the Golden Eye for ‚Best International Film Music 2016’, an award endowed with a CHF 10’000 cash prize. A Special Mention went to the Rumanian composer Lucian Zbarcea.

    Film Music Competition and the Opening of all Film Sections on the Second Festival Day

    Today revolves around the International Film Music Competition, which has grown over the years to become a major permanent feature at the ZFF. This celebratory concert evening at the Tonhalle Zürich sees the world premiere performance of the five finalists’ compositions. The Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich will perform the music to Seth Boyden’s short film AN OBJECT AT REST. The Film Music Concert that follows focuses entirely on the five-time Academy Award-winner John Williams and his film scores.

    The Zurich Film Festival Opens its Cinema Doors for the 12th Time

    The ZFF opens this evening at the Corso cinema with the European premiere screening of the Australian drama LION. Director Garth Davis and Executive Producer Harvey Weinstein are in Zurich to present the film. Various celebrity guests will also attend the event, including Federal Councillor Alain Berset and the Mayor of Zurich, Corine Mauch. The Green Carpet at Sechseläutenplatz opens for photographers and onlookers at 19:00.

    Actress Uma Thurman will visit the Zurich Film Festival on Saturday 24.09.16 to present at the Arena Cinemas Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic KILL BILL: VOL. 1, a film in which she plays the lead role. She will remain to discuss her work and films following the screening. Thurman will also present the Filmmaker Award during the grand IWC Gala on Saturday evening.

    Five Swiss Projects nominated for Filmmaker Award

    The ‘Association for the Promotion of Film in Switzerland’ has nominated five Swiss film projects for this year’s Filmmaker Award. The aim of the award is to promote Swiss filmmaking by offering production sponsorship to the value of 100’000 Swiss francs. The second such award will be presented this year on September 24 during the IWC Gala Evening, held within the framework of the Zurich Film Festival.
