Focus Competition
Sönke Wortmann (Jury President)
German director Sönke Wortmann studied at the University of Television and Film in Munich and at the Royal College of Art in London. He won the German Film Award for KLEINE HAIE (1992), as well as for DER BEWEGTE MANN (1994), one of the most successful films of post-war German cinema. This was followed, among others, by the box-office hit DAS WUNDER VON BERN (2003), the documentary DEUTSCHLAND. EIN SOMMERMÄRCHEN (2006) and the hit series CHARITÉ (2017). His comedies DER VORNAME (2018) and CONTRA (2020) both screened as Gala Premieres at ZFF.
Caterina Mona
Caterina Mona studied English Literature at the University of Zurich before moving to the INSAS film school in Brussels in 1998. She graduated as an editor in 2001. After gaining experience as an assistant editor, script/continuity and collaborator at the Locarno and Berlin film festivals, she has been working as a freelance film editor since 2003. In the winter of 2013/14, Caterina spent half a year in Buenos Aires with her family, where she wrote the screenplay for her first short film PERSI. Her feature film debut SEMRET will be released next year. She has roots in Ticino and speaks Italian with her family. She lives and works in Zurich.
Pierre Monnard
After studying film in England, Swiss director Pierre Monnard made his first short films SWAPPED (2002) and COME CLOSER (2004), which won the Swiss Film Award and a Pardi di domani from the Locarno Film Festival. In 2013, his first feature-length film RECYCLING LILY was released. It was followed by the hit series ANOMALIA (2015) and WILDER (2017-2020), and the documentary BLOOD BUSINESS (2017), among others. Monnard's second feature film PLATZSPITZBABY advanced to become one of the biggest successes in Swiss cinema in 2020 and was voted best film of the year by the Association of Swiss Film Journalists.
Sandra Guldberg Kampp
Sandra Guldberg Kampp was born in Svendborg on Fyn in Denmark. Having attended youth theatre, she auditioned and successfully landed the leading role in the feature film WILDLAND (2020). Directed by Jeanette Nordahl, and written by Ingeborg Topsøe, it was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it received it’s world premiere in the Panorama section. Guldberg Kampps superb central performance garnered her significant critical acclaim. She was nominated for a Bodil Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the film. At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Guldberg Kampp was in two short films which made the official selection – INHERENT (2021) and IN THE SOIL (2021).
Ada Solomon
Ada Solomon is a Romanian producer, founder of Hi Film Productions and Micro Film. She has produced over 70 films such as: BAD LUCK BANGING OR LOONY PORN (Radu Jude, 2021, Golden Bear Berlin), AFERIM! (Radu Jude, 2015, Silver Bear Berlin) and CHILD’S POSE (Calin Netzer, 2013, Golden Bear Berlin). She has worked with proeminent filmmakers as Ivana Mladenovic, Alexandru Solomon, Razvan Radulescu, Federico Bondi, Adriano Valerio and was executive producer for Maren Ade’s TONI ERDMANN (2016). Solomon is Executive President of EWA Network, Deputy Chairwoman of EFA, EAVE national coordinator, ACE board member and winner of EFA European Co-production Award – Prix Eurimages.
Feature Film Competition
Daniel Brühl (Jury President)
Daniel Brühl became internationally known for his leading role in the feature film GOOD BYE, LENIN! (2003), for which he won the German and European Film Awards. Numerous appearances in international productions followed. For his portrayal of racing driver Niki Lauda in RUSH (2013), he received, among others, a Golden Globe as well as a BAFTA nomination. He also appeared in Quentin Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (2009), the Marvel adaptation CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (2016) and starred in the hit series THE ALIENIST (2018-2020) and THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER (2021). This year, his directorial debut NEBENAN premiered in competition at the Berlinale. He also serves as a producer with his production company Amusement Park Film (soon with a remake of IM WESTEN NICHTS NEUES).
Stéphanie Chuat
Stéphanie Chuat works together with Véronique Reymond as a “twin-engine“. Their award-winning debut film THE LITTLE BEDROOM (2010) premiered in competition at the Locarno Film Festival. It was the Swiss submission for the Academy Awards and won Best Fiction Film and Best Screenplay at the Swiss Film Award 2011. In 2014, their series OPEN BOOK was broadcast on Swiss and French Television. Their second fiction film MY LITTLE SISTER (2020), starring Nina Hoss and Lars Eidinger as well as Swiss icon Marthe Keller, was selected in competition at the Berlinale 2020. It won 5 awards at the Swiss Film Award 2021, including Best Fiction Film and Best Screenplay, and was the Swiss submission at the Oscars 2021.
Dieter Kosslick
As managing director at the film subsidies in Hamburg, Dieter Kosslick was co-founder of the "First European Film Distribution Fund (EFDO)," the pioneering project for the later "Creative Europe - MEDIA Program." After managing the Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen from 1991 to 2001, where he also became a founding member of the International Film School IFS, he directed the Berlin International Film Festival for 18 years. He also taught as a professor at the Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Film University. For his commitment, Kosslik received, among others, the Federal Cross of Merit First Class, the Helmut Käutner Award and a Golden Screen from the Main Association of German Film Theaters.
Andrea Cornwell
Andrea Cornwell is a British producer. She is currently in post production on THE ESSEX SERPENT for AppleTV+, directed by Clio Barnard, starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston. Her films include the A24 horror hit SAINT MAUD directed by Rose Glass; APOSTASY directed by Daniel Kokotajlo; SUITE FRANÇAISE (starring Michelle Williams, Kristin Scott Thomas, Margot Robbie) and the sci-fi horror LAST DAYS ON MARS which premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. Feature documentaries include SEAHORSE directed by Jeanie Finlay and the multi-award winning BRUCE LEE AND THE OUTLAW, directed by Joost Vandebrug.
Documentary Competition
Asif Kapadia (Jury President)
British director Asif Kapadia is best known for his trilogy of narratively driven, archive constructed documentaries. SENNA (2010) won BAFTAs for Best Documentary and Best Editing and was nominated for Outstanding British Film of the Year. AMY (2015) World Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, it won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, the BAFTA for Best Documentary, the European Film Award for Best Documentary and a Grammy for Best Music Film. DIEGO MARADONA (2019) premiered at Cannes as well. Kapadia’s narrative debut THE WARRIOR (2001) won the BAFTA for Outstanding British Film of the Year and the Award for Best Debut Feature. He also directed two episodes of the critically lauded series MINDHUNTER (2017-2019).
Hanka Kastelicová
Hanka Kastelicová is the VP of Documentaries for HBO Europe. Based in the Prague office, she works closely with HBO Europe’s production centres. She commissions and co-produces documentary programming for HBO Europe, focusing on feature-length productions, and documentary series. She co-produced many successful documentaries in different European countries, awarded at many international festivals. As an experienced and dedicated documentary filmmaker, she has lectured on documentary filmmaking and participated in the organization of masterclasses, industry seminars, and courses.
Gregory Kershaw
Gregory Kershaw is a graduate of Columbia University’s prestigious MFA Film Directing program, where he wrote, directed, and lensed narrative films. THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS (2020), which Kershaw directed, shot, and produced with filmmaking partner Michael Dweck, was selected for numerous festivals including Sundance, Cannes and Zurich. The film won the Directors Guild of America award and The American Society of Cinematographers awards for Best Documentary and was shortlisted for the 2021 Oscars and BAFTAs. Kershaw has directed, lensed, and produced many other documentaries exploring the impact of the modern world on the environment and traditional communities around the world.
Sophie Maintigneux
Sophie Maintigneux was born in Paris in 1961 and has been a cinematographer since 1984. She has shot over 70 documentaries and feature films, including LE RAYON VERT (1986) by Éric Rohmer and KING LEAR (1987) by Jean-Luc Godard. She has received several awards for her camera work, including the Best Camera of the Year Award from the German Film Critics Association in 1990 and the German Camera Award in the documentary category in 2003 and 2009. From 2006 to 2011, Maintigneux was co-head of the camera department at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. Since 2011 she has been a professor at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
Michela Pini
Michela Pini worked as executive producer for the likes of Alice Rohrwacher and Ursula Meier. In 2007 she founded her production company Cinédokké.She co-produced THE GUEST by Duccio Chiarini (Piazza Grande, Locarno 2018), and BAD TALES by Fratelli D’Innocenzo, Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at Berlinale 2020. She produced CRONOFOBIA by Francesco Rizzi (Special Jury Prize, Tallinn Black Nights 2018; Best Director & Best Screenplay, Max Ophüls Film Festival) and LOVE ME TENDER by Klaudia Reynicke (Locarno, Toronto and BFI 2019). Since 2020 she is also a producer at 8horses.
