The Green Prince

by Nadav Schirman Documentary Competition

“If somebody raped his mother, that’s very shameful. But if you collaborated with Israel, that’s much more shameful.“ The young Mosab once believed the words and actions of his father Scheikh Hassan Yousef, one of the founders of the radical Islamist organisation Hamas, a group that still terrorises Israel today. His family and many Palestinians now consider Mosab an evil traitor. As a teenager sitting in an Israeli prison after being sentenced for unauthorised possession of a gun, Mosab made a dramatic decision that would change his life: He began working as an informant for the supposed enemy, Israel’s internal security service Shin Bet. Driven by his Israeli commanding officer and his growing doubts about the policies of Hamas, Mosab spied on his own family for over a decade. Based on Mosab’s memoirs, director Nadav Shirman staged this incredible story in the style of a classic documentary thriller.
