The ambitious up-and-coming director Isabell has succeeded: One of her short films has made it to the world’s most important film festival. But after arriving in Cannes, she soon realises that the film business is still based on rigidly set Stone Age gender roles. There are no films by female directors in the official programme, but what really makes Isabell’s blood boil are the chauvinistic remarks made by her comrade-in-arms and producer David, with whom she increasingly argues. When, on top of this, she receives crushing feedback about her new film from a potential backer, self-doubt begins to set in. Before she can finally live out her dreams on the mount Olympus of the film industry, she must first discover who truly believes in her.
This film is an experiment with reality: Isabell Šuba turned her invitation to Cannes in 2012 into a film project. In MÄNNER ZEIGEN FILME & FRAUEN IHRE BRÜSTE, actress Anne Haug assumed the identity of Isabell for the duration of the festival – the film was shot on location in just five days.
