New World View Hungary

Riding on the back of the international wave of success currently enjoyed by Hungarian feature length productions, Hungarian short film is also experiencing something of a revival. Réka Bucsi (LOVE), currently one of Europe’s hottest animation filmmakers, is from Hungary. Kristóf Deák even received an Academy Award this spring for his short film SING (screening in the ‘ZFF for Kids’ section). The topics broached are many and varied; from a humorously affirmative insight into the inner workings of a Hungarian garage (GARAGE INVENTORY) to engaging examinations of migration issues (DIALOGUE and WELCOME) and a sensitive love story about a cleaner and a school pupil (BEAUTIFUL FIGURE), five recent short films take a look at the Hungarian soul without shying away from controversial social and political issues.
Curated by Stefan Staub, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur.
