Al otro lado del muro / The Other Side of the Wall

by Pau Ortiz International Documentary Film / Competition

They were looking for a better life – and now 18-year-old Ale and 14-year-old Rocío are left standing alone with two younger siblings in tow. A few months after they left Honduras along with their mother on a quest for a better life in Mexico, their mother is sentenced to ten years of imprisonment as a result of a dubious court case. While she attempts to prove her innocence, her children, left without official documents, financial means or the support of parents, are left to fend for themselves. Ale does his best to take on the role of a strict but loving father, while Rocío takes care of the siblings. As much as she loves her brother, Rocío is dreaming of freedom rather than responsibilities and is soon taken to her limits…
Filmmaker Pau Ortiz tells the harrowing yet equally inspiring story of an immigrant family that in spite of difficult circumstances remains bursting with love and solidarity.
