A sleepy town in a desolate North Norwegian landscape. Beautiful teenager Tyra has been reported missing. Briefly afterwards a young man is stabbed to death. Both were members of a religious community. Police officer Hedda Gilbert, who only recently returned to her hometown, is in charge of the case. Against her wishes, uncooperative investigator Joel Dreyer from Oslo is also assigned to the case. It turns out that the missing girl and the victim of the stabbing were lovers which merely marks the beginning of a treacherous hunt that takes us from a long-forgotten past to new and ever more shocking surprises.
