Atelier de conversation

by Bernhard Braunstein Focus Competition

French people refuse to speak English, do not work hard enough and spend all day drinking red wine. These are just some of the clichés humorously highlighted in the „Atelier de Conversation“. Here, at the „Bibliothèque publique d’information“ in Paris’ Centre Pompidou, an unusual group of people descends each week. From war refugees and business people to carefree students and the politically persecuted – as different as the participants may seem, they all share one common goal: To learn French and find the support they need to survive in this foreign place. This is a place of hope, a place where social and cultural boundaries dissolve, and a place where people who would never usually come together meet as equals.
Director Bernhard Braunstein, who himself once attended the „Atelier de Conversation“, has created a superbly designed, memorable and entertaining film about that which unites us as human beings.
