“Attention! Radioactive Waste is Buried Here.” The disposal of long-lived radioactive substances, which remain a danger to life for up to several hundred thousand years – poses a huge present-day challenge. How can we protect future generations? Can we keep our nuclear waste disposal sites under control? And what measures are necessary to make them eternally recognisable? Governments around the world are searching without success for answers to these questions. CONTAINMENT takes us on a 650 meter journey underground to the US permanent disposal site for nuclear waste in New Mexico, to Fukushima, and to the contaminated region on South Carolina’s Savannah River. We also take a look at a pretty sketchy future – a rather disquieting place to be.
