Ruth and Alex are forced to sell their beloved apartment in Brooklyn. Although this long-time married couple is still very active, old age often makes its presence known, for example when climbing the stairs to their apartment. The difficult decision to sell comes precisely at a time marked by several unpleasant events: The illness of their dog results in a vet bill to the tune of $10,000. Real estate brokers and bargain hunters bring unwanted hassle. And a beached oil transporter puts the whole of New York on terror alert. Memories become a mental island of peace: Amidst the chaos, the two review the good old days in the comfort of their beloved home. ALEX AND RUTH is based on Jill Climent’s novel ‘Heroic Measures’.
