Yume

Annkatrin Hausmann|DOK: Porträt

Three women, three cities, three stories. Tokyo: Tonko tries to make it as a pop singer. Although over 30 she still lives with her parents and wanders through the city at night time singing here and there to small audiences in the hope of being discovered. Havana: Analía has just completed her art degree and is waiting for her obligatory two-year social service to end so she can finally up sticks and be with her lover. Tehran: In public Ayin obeys the very strict regulations set out for women with regard to veiling and behaviour. Behind closed doors she swaps her headscarf for bandages and practices kickboxing, to let out the frustrations caused by living in a repressive patriarchy under the morality police. YUME (Japanese for dream) documents the hopes and desires of three young women who, despite all their differences, are united in their wish for an independent and self-determined life.
