Because of the civil war in Yemen, Isra'a and her husband Ahmed lack the financial means to support a fourth child, and are therefore forced to make the heart-breaking decision to terminate Isra'a's pregnancy. In doing so, however, they meet with a great deal of incomprehension from their social environment. With THE BURDENED, filmmaker Amr Gamal fictionalises a touching story that happened exactly the same way in his circle of friends. The sensitive drama gives an insight into a country where one of the most devastating civil wars in history is still raging. The rarity of films coming out of Yemen makes this a unique and valuable masterpiece.
