Battle of the Sexes

Jonathan Dayton|Biopic

1973 saw tennis player Billie Jean King at the pinnacle of her career. However, the many tournament titles were not the only thing in the life of this smart and exceptionally talented sportswoman. Off the tennis court, King was engaged in fighting for the better acceptance of women’s tennis and the fairer distribution of prize money – an engagement that certainly was not appreciated by all men. The aged tennis professional, and hobby misogynist Bobby Riggs challenged Billie to a match in order to prove the supremacy of men over women once and for all. Billie, however, saw the chance to draw the world’s attention to her cause in this battle of the sexes. Eleven years after LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, directing duo Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris playfully reconstruct a tennis spectacle that made sporting history.
