    Third part of the Connect to Reality program at the GIFF

    Professionals and major stakeholders in the Swiss cinema industry have come together at the 23rd Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) for the third part of the Connect to Reality program, a platform for discussion set up by the Locarno, Zurich and Geneva festivals. Together, they discussed proposals aimed chiefly at achieving greater continuity and rethinking training courses in the cinema industry.

    Closing Figures 13th Zurich Film Festival

    The ‘jinxed’ 13th edition of the Zurich Film Festival actually turned out to be a resounding success. The number of visitors rose by around 8.5% to 98’300 (previous year: 90’500). With its 160 films and four new festival theatres at the RiffRaff cinema, the ZFF has once again seen a notable increase in visitor numbers and registered significantly more sold-out screenings than last year.

    The awards of the 13th Zurich Film Festival

    The main juries of the 13th Zurich Film Festival’s three competition categories have awarded their Golden Eyes to POP AYE by Kirsten Tan from Singapore (International Feature Film), MACHINES by Rahul Jain from India, Germany and Finland (International Documentary Film) and BLUE MY MIND by Lisa Brühlmann from Switzerland (Focus: Switzerland, Germany, Austria).     Winner ZFF 72

    Three entries from Switzerland win the awards of the fourth ZFF 72 film contest. The Jury Award, chosen by a specialist jury, goes to WIRED by Manuel Imboden from Berne; the Viewers Award, chosen by the online voting community, goes to Joel Haas for his entry DUNKLE KÜCHE; and finally, the new Mobile Filming Award goes to FRAUKE PETRY KOCHT by Livio Beyeler from Zurich.

    6th International Film Music Competition: Winner

    Italian composer Giuseppe Onofrietti is the winner of the 6th International Film Music Competition, which took place during the 13th Zurich Film Festival on Thursday evening at the Tonhalle Maag. Onofrietti received the Golden Eye endowed with a CHF 10’000 cash prize for ‚Best International Film Music 2017’.

    Simon Baker with the European Premiere of BREATH at ZFF

    Simon Baker is to present his new film BREATH as a Gala Premiere at the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF). BREATH will celebrate its European premiere on October 5 at cinema Corso. Actor, writer and director Simon Baker will attend.

    World Premiere screening of Swiss production THE ARROW OF TIME

    Former President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev intended to travel to the Zurich Film Festival to attend the world premiere screening of Leila Conners’ THE ARROW OF TIME in person. The Nobel Laureate was strongly advised by his doctors not to travel, and for that reason cancelled his trip.     Third Filmmaker Award to Niklaus Hilber’s PARADISE WAR

    On Saturday evening, Hollywood actor James Marsden presented the third Filmmaker Award at the IWC gala dinner entitled ‘For the Love of Cinema’ as part of the 13th Zurich Film Festival. The award, endowed with a CHF 100,000 prize, went to Niklaus Hilber’s feature film project PARADISE WAR.

    Actress Emmanuelle Seigner, director Roman Polanski and producer Wassim Béji will present their most recent film D’APRÈS UNE HISTOIRE VRAIE in person on Monday, October 2. The film will screen at the Zurich Film Festival as a Gala Premiere.

    13th Zurich Film Festival opens with tennis film

    The Swedish tennis film BORG/McENROE by Danish-born Janus Metz Pedersen opened the 13th Zurich Film Festival on Thursday evening. The director was joined by Borg actor Sverrir Gudnason and screenwriter Ronnie Sandahl.
