Julian Schnabel is not only a worldwide renowned filmmaker, but also a painter and one of the most famous exponents of Neo-expressionism. He gave his debut as a director with BASQUIAT, a film about New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and dedicated his second film BEFORE NIGHT FALLS to author and Cuban exile Reinaldo Arenas. He celebrated his biggest success with the four-time Academy Award-nominated LE SCAPHANDRE ET LE PAPILLON, which also won the award for best director at Cannes.
