by Safi Yazdanian
After 20 years of living in France, artist Goli returns to her home city of Rasht on the Caspian Sea coast. Her parents have died, yet many memories are reawakened. She is greeted like an old friend by the local frame-maker Farhad, but Goli is baffled, convinced she has never met him before in her life. The mysterious man begins showing up wherever she goes – and seems to know more about her than she finds comfortable. Has Goli erased something from her memory on purpose? Safi Yazdanian’s debut work is a beautifully balanced film about homecoming and memory, and their corresponding melancholic sentiments. Iranian cinema’s dream couple, Leila Hatami and husband Ali Mosaffa, plays the lead roles.
