In 1800, Van Diemen’s Land, now known as Tasmania, was a notorious penal colony at the end of the world. In 1822, Alexander Pearce and seven fellow convicts manage the impossible and escape Macquarie Harbour – right into the deadly, unexplored wilderness of Van Diemen’s Land. The inhumane conditions of this harsh terrain take their toll on the group: provisions run out, mutual mistrust increases and tensions in the group begin to escalate. The life or death situation of the helpless escapees is pushed to the absolute extreme and Pearce is forced to make a decision he hoped beyond all hope he would never have to make: the group will die without food and murder is the only way to ensure survival.
