Ursula - Leben in Anderswo

Rolf Lyssy|DOK: Gesellschaft & Mensch

Ursula Bodmer was born deaf-blind in 1951. She was diagnosed as an idiot, and placed in a home for the incurable. But Anita Utzinger, a young special-needs teacher from Zurich, reached a different conclusion. Convinced that a deaf-blind person was also worthy of education, Anita took the young girl under her wing. Ursula is now 60 years old, and her life-long companion Anita is over 80. Director Rolf Lyssy first came into contact with Ursula in 1964, when she was 12 years old, while filming his documentary ‘Ursula oder Das unwerte Leben’ (Ursula or A Worthless Life). He could find no way of communicating with her then, and Ursula has remained a mysterious, unshakeable being to the present day. But what does her daily existence look like now? Where does she find her force for life?
