The Tillman Story

Amir Bar-Lev

Pat Tillman never considered himself a hero. His decision to decline a million-dollar American football deal to fight in the Second Iraq War was not without reason: Tillman considered it the only right thing to do. Following his tragic death in Afghanistan, Tillman became a celebrated hero reaching a status that was misused by the US military for propaganda purposes. His relatives were deceived in the same way the public was. The army, however, did not reckon with Pat’s mother Dannie, who never believed the official version of events. Using information she collected from files, reports and witnesses, Dannie managed to reveal the truth of the Tillman case. Those responsible have still not yet been held accountable.
