The Sapphires

Dave is not the manager that the four young women from a remote Aboriginal community want, but he’s better than nothing. The year is 1968, the world is changing, and these four musicians want to strut on the stage. Dave is Irish and the quartet’s country songs hurt his ears – he’s more of a soul man. When he secures them a gig in front of soldiers stationed in Vietnam; Gail, Julie, Cynthia and Kai are prepared for anything. Together the five set off on an adventure – and board an emotional rollercoaster when love rears its head. THE SAPPHIRES is a powerful film adaptation of the Australian musical of the same title and based on the true story of screenwriter Tony Briggs’ mother. The film depicts courage, love and soul on a backdrop of the social unrest of the late ‘60s.
