The Lost Leonardo

Andreas Koefoed|DOK: Kunst & Kultur

Some of the most respected art experts gather at the National Gallery in London in 2008 to examine an unassuming painting depicting Christ as the Saviour of the World. They confirm the "Salvator mundi" as being the creation of Leonardo da Vinci, thus setting in motion an amazing story: initially dismissed as a cheap replica, the painting is suddenly considered a long-lost masterpiece by da Vinci and, in 2017, is auctioned off at Christie's for 450 million dollar as the most expensive art work of all time. In the style of a thriller, this highly entertaining documentary reveals the insane story behind the auction, and shows how a painting becomes the pawn of a geopolitical power struggle. Is the multi-million dollar "Salvator mundi" really by da Vinci? Or do the rich and powerful just want it to be?
