Mafia Godfather Don Vito Corleone is preparing to retire. He is to be succeeded by his son Sonny, while his preferred candidate, Michael, forges ahead with his own plans. When Don Vito falls victim to a failed assassination attempt, Michael becomes aware of his responsibilities and offers himself as the future ruler of the Empire.
