This film documents the fate of a Zambian family whose adult members are all HIV positive. It focuses on 28-year-old Mutinta, the second of farmer Abarcon’s three wives. When she learns of her illness, it’s too late: she’s already pregnant. She accepts medical treatment in order to protect her unborn child. The film interweaves the discussions of tribal elders as they attempt to find ways of containing the spread of HIV. Mutinta is torn between hope and despair when Abarcon’s first wife Brenda dies, and the virus spreads to his pregnant third wife Matildah.
