Skateistan - Four wheels and a Board in Kabul

Kai Sehr|DOK: Gesellschaft & Mensch

More than half of Afghanistan’s population is under 16 years old. In 2007, skateboarder Oliver Percovich and the humanitarian aid worker Sharna Nolan made their way to Kabul with a handful of skateboards. The two soon became aware of the magnetic effect of the board on a whole generation of youths, living in a country where leisure activities are limited. And so Skateistan, the country’s the first skate school, was opened. This documentary follows the two founders in their attempt to support and unite young people, regardless of gender, social and ethnic background, with their skate and life school.
