Amichai Lau-Lavie is the son of Israel's highest orthodox rabbi. As a young man, he escaped his origins to New York, where he performed as a rebellious drag queen, became a gay father and formed an inclusive artists' group. The older he got, however, the more he felt himself being pulled back to his religious roots. The director accompanied Amichai with his camera for over 20 years. The result is an intimate portrait of a dazzling personality trying to balance his identity and his faith. 'This incredibly fascinating portrait consecrates itself to an essential question of our time. Is a modern society compatible with orthodox religion? SABBATH QUEEN takes us on a journey, where history, identity and faith meet.
