One Night in Miami
On the night of February 25, 1964, Cassius Clay – later known as Muhammad Ali – took the sporting world by surprise when he boxed his way against all odds to the world championship title at the Miami Beach Convention Center. But while the cheering crowd flocks to Miami Beach, the young champion is forced to leave his place of triumph due to the legally embedded rule on racial segregation. Instead, he spends the night at the Hampton House Motel in an African-American neighbourhood and celebrates with his closest friends: activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke and football star Jim Brown. Spurred on by Cassius' victory, they are determined to usher in a new era of equality. Based on the eponymous play by Kemp Powers, the film tells the story of a fictional meeting of four masterminds whose visions laid the foundation for the civil rights movement. The brilliant directing debut of Oscar-winning actress Regina King.
