Mirjana Karanovic is a Serbian actress and director. She gained international recognition with her role as the mother in Kusturica's WHEN FATHER WAS AWAY ON BUSINESS (1985). One of her most significant roles was as Esma in the film GRABAVICA: THE LAND OF MY DREAMS (2006) by Jasmila Zbanic, which won the Golden Bear. She made her directorial debut with A GOOD WIFE (2016) at the renowned Sundance Festival, which was subsequently shown at over forty festivals. MOTHER MARA is her second feature film.
