Moneyball

Bennett Miller|Drama

California, 2002. Billy Beane is the proud manager of Oakland Athletics, but the baseball club, steeped in tradition and renowned in the 1970s and ‘80s, is facing a crisis: it doesn’t have enough money to build up a competitive team. The predicament gives Beane a brilliant idea. He employs the young economist Peter Brand, and instead of concentrating on the success rate of single players, the two decide to put their team together using a sophisticated, purely mathematical, statistical analysis. Although his team is composed of cheap and seemingly mediocre players, it should be capable of great victories. Beane’s experimental strategy is sniggered at by the richer competition, but he still doggedly goes his own way.
