Miele

Valeria Golino|Drama

Irene flies to Mexico every month, not as her married lover suspects in pursuit of another man, but to fetch sleeping pills – Irene works under the pseudonym Miele as a suicide assister. She is dedicated to her mission of relieving the terminally ill from their suffering. But Irene’s illegal activities leave her increasingly alienated. She is distracted whether meeting her lover or swimming in the sea. The young woman is left questioning her commitment when she is confronted one day by a client who wishes to die – not because of an untreatable illness, but because of resignation and a general weariness of life. Valeria Golino’s debut feature draws an impressive portrait of Miele’s development. The film is carried by the exceptional Jasmine Trinca in the title role along with innovative camera work and a well-thought-out sound design.
