In 2050, more plastic particles will be swimming in the ocean than fish. But the fifth-graders from Red Hook, Brooklyn refuse to surrender to this shocking prognosis without a fight. The motivated students spend two years researching the local and global effects of plastic waste on the environment and start to become socio-politically active. On their daily agenda are not only rallies in front of the town hall or the submission of legislative proposals, but also the banning of disposable plastic from the school canteen. With wonderful animated sequences that illustrate the plastic’s journey through nature, this entertaining and lively documentary film hits the nerve of the times and impressively depicts how devotedly the children fight for our planet.
