A small, brightly lit room under a church becomes the meeting place for two married couples whose lives are linked by a terrible tragedy. They each lost a son in a shooting, and now the parents of the victim sit across from the parents of the perpetrator. They have all prepared for this conversation and they are all trying to remain polite and calm – but the search for the right words soon has them reaching their limits. Fran Kranz directs his debut with quiet deliberation to create a psychologically complex, oppressive chamber play that highlights the different ways we deal with grief and loss. MASS is an intense drama carried by a brilliant quartet of actors.
