La vérité / The Truth

As a famous actress, Fabienne is used to being admired and served. Recently, she has published her memoirs and is being visited by her daughter Lumir, who has arrived from New York with her husband and child. It comes as no surprise to Lumir that everything in her childhood home in Paris still revolves around her mother. When Lumir begins to read her mother’s book, she realises that it is filled with lies and omissions – but Fabienne has no time for explanations. However, between dinners and movie shoots, everything gradually starts to unfold: truths will be told, accounts settled, loves and resentments confessed. Japanese master director Hirokazu Kore-eda stages a wonderful, bittersweet drama filled with subtle humour; a film about mothers, daughters and the great spectacle of life. French stars Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche shine.
