The large Gabarre-Mendoza family lives in a poor district not far from Madrid in a self-built shack. The family members keep their heads above water by selling scrap metal and through the support of their neighbours. They are celebrating their youngest son’s birthday when the police turn up – again! At first it was just rumours, but now it’s getting serious: the area is to be torn down. As forced resettlement approaches, each of the residents is faced with saying goodbye to their home in their own way. In calm authentic images, LA ÚLTIMA PRIMAVERA draws the fictitious portrait of a real Spanish family’s daily struggle. Despite all the hardships and personal differences, it is a touching example of unwavering cohesion, optimism and love.
