La ligne / The Line

Ursula Meier|Tragikomödie

The relationship between 35-year-old Margaret and her unstable mother, Christina, has been forever marred by conflict. When another argument escalates and Margaret becomes violent, Christina obtains a court order against her aggressive daughter: Margaret is not allowed to come within 200 meters of the family home – a line drawn by her twelve-year-old sister Marion marks the boundary. But the ban on contact only strengthens Margaret's desire for family closeness, and so she approaches the supposedly insurmountable line every day. Set in the no-man's land of a Valais suburb, Swiss director Ursula Meier explores an explosive mother-daughter relationship with unforgettable images and unerring tonality.
