Katrina Babies

Edward Buckles Jr.|DOK: Gesellschaft & Mensch

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina not only destroyed large parts of the city of New Orleans, but also changed the lives of many young people forever. Filmmaker Edward Buckles Jr. was 13-years-old when it happened. In the documentary KATRINA BABIES, he gives voice to those who were forced from their homes and abandoned by the government at the time. Personal memories, harrowing archival footage and animated sequences combine to create a contemporary document that is as unique as it is emotional, revealing both the immediate and long-term consequences of a storm of the century. Along the way, a colourful portrait of African-American culture in the fascinating "Big Easy" emerges.
