Kabul, City in the Wind

Aboozar Amini|DOK: Gesellschaft & Mensch

Dusty clouds filled with fear are settling over Kabul. Beneath them lie people with feelings and dreams. One of them is the stubborn bus driver Abbas. His rickety bus and the war-torn Afghan capital render his everyday life increasingly difficult. His worries manifest through the verses of his songs which he whistles into the winds. Twelve-year-old Afshin and his little brother Benjamin also live in the city, spending their time playing between discarded rocket launchers, cemeteries and the constant fear of suicide bombers. As their father is leaving the country for Iran, Afshin has to take on his paternal role. With this striking debut, filmmaker Aboozar Amini creates a direct and poetic homage to a city and its people, people who defy political and religious destruction and let their hopes drift with the wind.
