by Stella Meghie
When Jean, a promising author stuck in a creative rut, is thrown out of her long-term on/off boyfriend’s apartment, the stylishly dressed twentysomething is left roaming around Brooklyn aimlessly and at the mercy of her well-off, female, middle-class Jamaican-American relative’s hospitality. Men seem to be a persistent problem for these can-do women, be it in the form of an unwanted pregnancy or their constant absence. Focusing more on her former relationship than forging future plans, Jean is oblivious to the fact that the perfect man has been right under her nose for quite some time. Director Stella Meghie’s modern dramedy portrays a dysfunctional New York City family.
