Invisible Demons

Rahul Jain|DOK: Umwelt & Natur

Heat waves with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees, water shortages in entire neighbourhoods and a cityscape shrouded in smog: in the Indian metropolis of Delhi, the effects of global warming are not a dystopian vision of the future, but a merciless present. Since India's economy opened up to global trade in 1991, economic growth and environmental pollution have continued unabated. Filmmaker Rahul Jain takes us to his home city, where air conditioning is a status symbol and dirt particles buzz through the air like poisonous darts. With captivating imagery and incisive statements from the city's inhabitants, he documents how in today's climate reality clean water and pure air are degenerating into luxury goods. Nominated for the Science Film Award
