The compositions by the 5th International Film Music Competition’s five finalists will be world premiered during the festive concert evening at the Tonhalle Zürich. The Film Music Concert that follows is dedicated to John Williams and his film scores. The evening is rounded off by an appearance by the Basel-born film composer Niki Reiser. The International Film Music competition is organised by the Zurich Film Festival and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich in collaboration with the Forum Filmmusik. Evening program Film Music Competition 202 composers from 43 countries entered the competition to score Seth Boyden’s six-minute short film AN OBJECT AT REST for symphony orchestra. The five best entries will be world premiered in the presence of the finalists by the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under the baton of Frank Strobel. The jury will announce the best composition on the same evening and present the winner with the CHF 10’000 cash endowed Golden Eye for „Best International Film Music 2016“. He has collaborated with numerous eminent directors and scored almost every Steven Spielberg film. The Film Music Concert sees the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich perform his finest and most popular soundtracks under the baton of Frank Strobel, and takes the audience on a musical journey through time into tremulous dinosaur parks, the depths of oceans and ‘galaxies far, far away’ – all, of course, on flying bikes! Special guest of the evening is Basel-based film composer Niki Reiser, who garnered FONDATION SUISA’s film music award this year for his original soundtrack to the Swiss film HEIDI.
