by Walter Salles
Rio de Janeiro, 1971: Former left-wing congressman Rubens Pavia is abducted by henchmen of the military dictatorship. His family never hears from him again. His wife Eunice (Fernanda Torres) tries to find out what happened to him and becomes an advocate for the rights of the victims of the military dictatorship (1964-1985). Walter Salles tells the true story of the Pavia family, with whom he spent time as a child, in a touching way. His deeply humanistic film is a love letter to democratic Brazil, honouring those who fought against injustice.
