Cristian Mungiu|Drama

Romeo Aldea (49), a physician living in a small mountain town in Transylvania, always wanted to be a part of a new, modern Romania that could leave it's communist past and systemic corruption behind. Years later, these dreams are long forgotten and Romeo’s only hopes lie with his daughter Eliza, who has got a scholarship to study psychology in the UK. She just has to pass her final exams – a formality for such a good student. When the 18-year-old doesn’t live up to her full potential in the final exams, however, Romeo, in order to help his daughter, follows a strategy which neglects his own ideals. Christian Mungiu’s masterfully told drama is the portrait of a lost generation, and the story of a country consumed by its moral decay. Winner of the best director's prize at 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
