We are delighted to be able to present the winning film in category Documentary Competition to a wide audience again on the last Sunday of the festival! BLACK BOX DIARIES will be screened with German/French subtitles only. Journalist Shiori Itō was raped by a member of the Japanese government. She documented her subsequent attempt to bring the perpetrator to justice on camera. Over the course of several years, this unique diary-style documentary unfolded with the suspense of a thriller, casting a unique light on Japan's patriarchal society and its treatment of women. A MeToo case that has caused a sensation in Japan and inspired courage in women who share the same fate.
