Faroeste Caboclo

René Sampaio|Western

João de Santo Cristo leaves his impoverished hometown in the Bahian hinterland and sets out to try his luck in Brasília. Aided by his cousin Pablo, he soon finds work and is consequently dragged into the world of drugs by this dubious relative. When one day he meets and falls in love with the beautiful senator’s daughter Maria Lúcia, João wants to leave the repressive, revenge-orientated milieu behind him, but that is not so easy. This extraordinary Brazilian western is inspired by a popular song of the same name by Renato Russo, and combines classic genre elements with Latin American originality. Fabrício Boliveira, one of Brazil’s most popular young actor, is exceptional in his role as the film’s sensitive and equally rough hero.
