Europe, She Loves
In order to build a life elsewhere, twentysomething Penny is considering to leave both her hometown Thessaloniki and her boyfriend Niko, who is satisfied with delivering pizzas. In Tallin, Veronica struggles through the night as a go-go dancer while keeping her patchwork family together by day. Siobhan and Terry try to escape – at times even without the use of drugs – the drudgery of daily life in Dublin. Finally, in Seville, Juan and Caro have just fallen in love; both refuse to think about the future. Europe seems to be in a state of turmoil and all that is left for the young is a quest for security and withdrawal into their own private worlds. Zurich-based filmmaker Jan Gassmann teamed up with cinematographer Ramon Giger and travelled the length and breadth of Europe to capture the realities of life faced by four couples. EUROPE SHE LOVES offers a poetic yet blunt insight into the intimate attitude towards life of a generation of young people who see themselves robbed of any future prospects.
