Bulging shelves, boring radio announcements, tedious customer questions, humming cleaning machines. Welcome to merX-Supermarkt, where the view at chest level is the best, because that’s where the customer looks. The supermarket is the only social meeting point for young and old in this industrialised Austrian suburb. This is where the bright 14-year-old Julian first meets the two-year-older dropout Marko. A small-minded supermarket manager and eager police officers make it almost impossible for the teenagers to hang out there. But the youth are not that easily warded off. Carried away by the high spirits of a summer’s night, they cross a line – with fatal consequences.
