Éden
Bruno Safadi|Drama
“Nobody wants to lose a husband”, says the young woman at the bus stop to Karine as an excuse for dieting during pregnancy. Karine, also heavily pregnant, lost her husband in a senseless shooting on the outskirts of Rio. Her despair is understandably great. Following the advice of her brother, she turns to the enigmatic Pastor Naldo, who immediately welcomes her into his “Church of Eden”. Here she finds herself in good hands, but in return must act as an ambassador in a new campaign by the free church. Until one day Naldo goes too far and Karin decides to take her fate into her own hands. Steady camera work, hypnotic sound effects and magnificent suburban Rio locations make ÉDEN a masterfully stylised portrait of a pregnant woman.
