José is employed as a border official on the Canary Islands. His decisions influence the fate of hundreds of African boat refugees who arrive every week on the coast of this Spanish holiday destination. But he can’t do anything about his sister Marielle’s drug addiction. Nathalie has travelled from Germany to spend her vacation on the beach and is waiting for her life partner Paul to join her. Zola, on the other hand, organised an expensive and illegal boat trip for himself and his son from Senegal to Spain, with hopes of asylum. One morning, Nathalie happens to witness the arrival of an overcrowded boat full of refugees, including Zola and his son, two of the few to survive the horror crossing.
